Looking for maternity in history.

I am a PhD candidate at the University of Exeter where I research and write about pregnancy, dress and elite culture in the early-modern period. I have worked in museums, historic houses and as a public historian for 20 years and counting. I am proud to support The Costume Society as a member of their executive committee with responsibility for conferences and major events. I am an Associate Fellow at the Royal Historical Society.

About my research: Pregnant women were a routine sight in the public landscape of eighteenth-century England, yet this is rarely represented in public history, on screen or in academia. I analyse clothing for pregnancy to find new information about the appearance and the lived experiences of pregnant women in the past.
